The Initiative was designed to increase the level of SAFE and RESPONSIBLE driving and work toward the elimination of Impaired Driving through Enforcement, Training, Education, Prevention, and Awareness in and around York City Pennsylvania.

Enforcement: A total of $19,500 was obtained through grant and local donations designated for enforcement. Overtime details were assigned by Sgt. Aikey throughout the 08-09 Calendar year to enforce Underage Drinking and Impaired Driving.

Training: One officer was trained in the recognition of drug impairment among impaired drivers. Seven additional officers were trained in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Four PBT's (Portable Breath Test) were purchased for the Police Department.

Prevention/Education: A total of $4,500 was raised and designated for education. An additional $1,500 was raised and designated for high school S.A.D.D. chapters. Educational curriculum sponsored by M.A.D.D. and titled "Protecting You/Protecting Me," designed for K-Elementary 5th grade is waiting approval.
