About Jonathan Butcher

A strong name for a strong boy. He is named for his grandfathers. And boy, did he need that strength. He came into the world 14 weeks early, weighing just 1 pound, 3.2 ounces. He was the length of a ruler: 12 inches. In his first days, his weight dropped below 1 pound. Can you imagine something so small, so fragile? Fortunately, in York we are blessed with a top-notch NICU: York Hospital. They are amazing people, and Jonathan lived by their sides for 124 days. Three years later, Jonathan is thriving. He is healthy, happy, smart, fearless, and tireless. Especially tireless! It is hard to believe what we went through – what he went through. It seems so long ago, yet almost yesterday. The NICU staff advised us from the beginning that life with a preemie in the NICU would be a rollercoaster, filled with ups and downs. That was an understatement. Jonathan was blessed with wonderful medical care, unending support from family and friends, and countless prayers. He also greatly benefitted from the work of the March of Dimes, who has done so much to reduce premature birth and help preemies like Jonathan. But there is so much more to do. Not all of Jonathan′s “neighbors” in the NICU made it home with their families. Jonathan′s sister Emily was born severely premature two years before her brother – she never made it home. Jonathan is the 2010 York March for Babies Ambassador! Please help him in his mission to raise funds to help his fellow preemies!

Deborah's greatest accomplishment is "Mom" to a miracle baby, Jonathan Thomas who was born 14 weeks premature and spent four months in the York Hospital NICU before coming home. Married to Scott Butcher, a marketing professional for JDB Engineering, they reside in York, PA with their sheltie puppy, Cleo. Formally a communications professional in the non-profit sector, Deborah now relishes in being a stay-at-home mom to Jonathan and entertaining her passion for music as a classically trained vocalist at her church, Mt. Zion United Church of Christ.
